OREANDA-NEWS. November 30, 2012. Cabinet ministers approved the opening of the talks on the draft financing agreement between the EU and RM. The grant will be allotted to Moldova for co-financing rehabilitation of power transportation networks of state enterprise Moldelectrica and preparing the sector for Moldova's joining the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) valued at 36.6 mln. euros in total.

The rest of the funds will be lent by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank. As it was said earlier, Moldova is planning to hook up to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity by 2020. For this purpose Moldova is going to construct three new high voltage power transmission lines with Romania and one with Ukraine. The four liens are valued at over USD135 mln.

Besides, the internal transport network of Moldelectrica is to be rehabilitated by modernizing its substation of 400 kW and 110/10 kW and three transmission lines of 110 kW at a length of 1 to 20 km and by setting new transformers and other equipment. Moldelectrica is a state enterprise subordinated to the Ministry of Economy of Moldova.

Its main functions include transportation of energy through high-voltage lines, prompt centralized administration, exploitation of intersystem transit communications together with energy systems of other states, etc.
