OREANDA-NEWS. November 30, 2012. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has won the Category I: Power Generation Award – Thermal / Conventional - Special Jury Award at the 6th Enertia Awards 2012 for its 4,000 MW Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in Mundra, Gujarat.

The award ceremony took place on November 22, 2012 at the Metropolitan Hotel, New Delhi. Enertia Awards attract India's top power and energy companies and are benchmarks for excellence in the sector. These awards are given to both public and private sector enterprises in the power and energy sector. Special focus is on key areas like super-critical thermal power, hydro power, solar energy, wind energy, de-centralised and distributed power, etc.

Tata Power's Mundra UMPP is India's first such project that is being developed in Gujarat. It is poised to be India's most energy efficient plant using super-critical technology. The power plant will increase India's power generation capacity by 2 percent and will approximately benefit around 16 million domestic consumers in the country through the distribution system by the state-owned procurers of Mundra power.

On receiving the award, KK Sharma, chief, Mundra project, said, “It was indeed a moment of great pride to have received the special jury award for the Mundra UMPP. Mundra UMPP is not only a Tata Power asset but also a national asset. Any recognition is a sign of appreciation for the company and the many employees who have ensured that quality is maintained at each step of Tata Power’s operations. We are very grateful to the panel for having considered us for this award.”

Overall, 26 awards had been adjudicated by an eminent jury panel. The prestigious Enertia Awards covered various areas and categories which included power generation, technology and innovation, utility performance and individual awards for sector contribution. An award for the most energy and power infrastructure excellent and investment friendly state were also given at the event.
