OREANDA-NEWS. December 4, 2012. TRANSNEFT plans to start building of the second line of the Polar Region – Purpe pipeline in February 2013, as Oleg Kozlov, the Head of the project of building of the “Polar Region – Purpe” system reported. The length of the second line shall amount 205 km. At that, 170 km of the pipeline will be mounted above the ground on special supports. O.Kozlov noticed that TRANSNEFT has never used such methods of building pipelines before. The supports are mounted on pile foundations, and special thermal stabilizers are positioned inside the piles to prevent melting of the ever-frost ground.

According to O.Kozlov, the first line of the oil pipeline shall be finished by the year 2014. “We have built 13 km of underground pipeline since March 2012”, he said. The length of this part of the pipeline amounts 132 km, 64 km of which will be mounted above the ground, as the Head of the project noticed. He reported also that they plan to start building of a third part of 152 km length in the year 2014. The whole part of the pipeline will be mounted under the ground then.

The “Polar Region – Purpe” oil pipeline will bind oil fields of Yamal with the “East Siberia – Pacific Ocean” oil pipeline (ESPO). The Company plans to finish building of the three parts of the pipeline in the year 2016. The total length of “Polar Region – Purpe” shall amount 490 km, its capacity – 45 million tons per year.
