OREANDA-NEWS. December 05, 2012. The European IT Agency, set to begin work tomorrow managing and developing the EU internal security information systems, will start by taking over specific systems related to Schengen visas and biometric data.

"The first task is to take over administering the existing justice and internal affairs IT-systems, meaning systems dealing with visas, Eurodac (a system for comparing fingerprints of asylum seekers and some categories of illegal immigrants) and the second generation Schengen visa systems," Krum Garkov, the director of the agency, said at a press conference on November 29.

According to Garkov, in the future the agency will have a broader spectrum of tasks connected to further developing the systems already in place, as well as developing and introducing new systems.
