OREANDA-NEWS. December 5, 2012. In line with its commitment to providing sustainable livelihood for its communities, Tata Power, India's largest integrated power utility, conducted a special employability training programme for unemployed youth at Kalinganagar, in association with TCS, Kolkata. The training took place over a period of two weeks and at Vyasnagar College.

The training programme received registrations from a total of 102 candidates, from which 72 successfully completed the programme. Post the training, a recruitment drive cum certificate awarding ceremony was organised at VN College for all the candidates who completed the training.

Chakrayudh Hota, OAS (SB), additional district magistrate, Jajpur, was the chief guest of the event. He wholeheartedly appreciated the joint efforts undertaken by Tata Power and TCS to improve the employability standards of the youth in these areas. Top HR officials from TCS, Kolkata were also present to conduct the recruitment drive as part of the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Purushotam Thakur, head, Odisha project, Tata Power, said, “This initiative is the beginning of a journey. We pride ourselves in developing the community in and around our projects and providing employment opportunities in the Tata group. We are in the process of implementing other such initiatives in the area with the participation of local community and district administration in the near future.”

This programme is a one-of-a-kind initiative that delivers a sustainable model of development to the communities. The programme was introduced last year at Naraj Marthapur and this is the first time that this initiative has been undertaken at Kalinganagar.
