OREANDA-NEWS. December 6, 2012. Uralkali (LSE: URKA, "the Company") is participating in the III International Agronomy Congress on Agriculture Diversification, Climate Change Management and Livelihoods, which is held on November 26-30 in New Delhi, India.

Arvind Chawla, Director for India at Belarusian Potash Company, inaugurated the technical session, which accommodated over 300 participants, with a presentation on "Potassium Importance & Manufacturing" and highlighted the global leadership of Uralkali as a potash manufacturer.

Speaking at the session Mr Chawla expressed concern over the rising population, the change in diets pattern driving the requirement and demand for higher yields and grain. In his view the recent increases among agricultural commodity prices are expected to catalyze a positive global fertilizer demand response.

Mr Chawla explained the importance of the key primary nutrients for the soil – Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P) and Potassium (K) – and how each nutrient plays its own role and emphasized that only together they ensure balanced nourishment:

"The need of the hour now is a scientific approach towards agriculture that uses balanced fertilization techniques to maximize yields for food security of India. In this the role of the scientific community present here is crucial."
