OREANDA-NEWS. December 11, 2012. Sinochem Petroleum Exploration & Production Co., Ltd. (an affiliate of Sinochem) carried out the first test of the Agapanto-1 Well (located at Mirto Oilfield in Maranta Block of Colombia) in the U layer of the cretaceous system. 663 barrels of crude oil were produced. The successful drilling of the Well raised good prospects of Maranta Block, reported the press-centre of Sinochem.

In October 2009, we acquired 100% equity of Emerald Energy Plc and obtained its oil and gas resource assets in Syria, Colombia and Peru, including 50%-100% equity of 8 exploration and production blocks in Colombia (hereinafter referred to as the “Sinochem Colombia Project”). The Sinochem Colombia Project is our first onshore project for us to be the operator.

Mirto Oilfield is located in the north of Putumayo Basin in Colombia. The Agapanto-1 Well is an exploration appraisal well deployed at the southern peak of Mirto Oilfield, Maranta Block. The drilling started on August 9 and the Well was drilled to the designed depth of 11,400 feet on September 25. The major target layer comprises an N layer, U layer and T layer of cretaceous system. The accumulated oil layer depth was more than 10 meters.

Compared with the other drilled exploration appraisal wells in Mirto Oilfield, Agapanto-1 Well is characterized by higher structure position and thicker reservoir layer. The findings in the U layer further proved our research on the local oil and gas accumulation and provided scientific bases for relevant work in the future.
