OREANDA-NEWS. December 12, 2012. Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko has challenged the government to spare no effort to reach all macroeconomic targets set for 2012.

The president laid special emphasis on GDP growth and price control.

To bring his point of view to the government, President Lukashenko held a conference with a few members of the Cabinet of Ministers and other high-profile officials, including Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich, President’s Chief of Staff Andrei Kobyakov, President’s Piotr Prokopovich, Economy Minister Nikolai Snopkov and Finance Minister Andrei Kharkovets.

The president criticized some officials for giving first priority to exports at the expense of GDP growth. The president shared expert advice on export strategies with the government and referred to GDP growth as the engine of export growth, even though it might result in a proportionate rise in imports.
