OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2012. Belarus’ veterinary authorities on November 28 introduced temporary restrictions on livestock imports from Lithuania to prevent bluetongue disease from penetrating the territory of Belarus.

The restrictions were prompted by Lithuania’s move to stop issuing veterinary certificates for livestock exports.

Vet restrictions apply to farm cattle, wild animals, zoo animals (susceptible to bluetongue).

Bluetongue disease is a non-contagious, insect-borne viral disease of ruminants, mainly sheep and less frequently of cattle.
