OREANDA-NEWS. December 20, 2012. SSE has become the only major energy supplier making its cheapest tariff (Discounted Energy April 2015 – a 2% discount off the standard variable rate for a fixed term) available to prepayment meter customers, delivering on a promise made as part of Building Trust, a set of 20 commitments to improve the energy market for customers.

SSE is the only major supplier currently making its cheapest tariff (Discounted Energy April 2015) available to prepayment meter (PPM) customers

SSE PPM customers can now choose between standard variable and Discounted Energy April 2015, with an average PPM customer able to save around Ј23 a year1 by switching to the discounted tariff

SSE completes its tariff simplification process by extending it to PPM customers

SSE is responding to customers, consumer groups and Ofgem, who have all made clear that they want greater simplicity in the products all energy suppliers offer. SSE has already acted on this by significantly reducing the number of products and tariff choices it offers and is now bringing its PPM offer in line with its standard credit tariffs through the introduction of a uniform standing charge and unit rate structure.

New PPM customers joining SSE will be able to choose between SSE’s new, simplified, standard variable tariff and Discounted Energy April 2015, opening up the option of a fixed-term, discounted tariff not previously available to them. Existing PPM customers will also be given the opportunity to sign up to Discounted Energy April 2015, which SSE estimates will save a typical PPM customer up to Ј23 per year by switching from SSE’s existing PPM tariff.

As part of the Building Trust campaign, SSE is offering Annual Energy Reviews to all of its customers and will be using these opportunities to speak to customers about the best option for their individual circumstances.

Tony Keeling, Director of Customer Service at SSE, comments: “We are proud to be leading the industry once again by giving our prepayment meter customers access to the best deals, living up to the commitment we made in April. For too long, PPM customers have had their choice restricted by the way in which they pay for the energy they need. Now, paying through a PPM will enable customers to sign up to the best tariff as well as giving them greater control over their expenditure.”
