OREANDA-NEWS. December 21, 2012.  On the 17th of December, 2012, the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed the Intergovernmental Agreement Concerning the Cooperation in the Peaceful Use of Atomic Energy.

The document was signed by Director General of ROSATOM Sergey Kirienko and Minister of Energy of UAE Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hamli.

The work on the agreement has been carried out since 2009. The agreement formulates necessary legal terms and conditions for full-scale development of the Russia-UAE nuclear cooperation. “This is an integrated agreement which provides for the cooperation in all spheres of nuclear power from uranium mining, fabrication of fuel and equipment, as well as research and construction of nuclear power plants, i.e. the entire cycle of the civil nuclear power,” S. Kirienko said at a press conference held after the agreement signing.

“The cooperation with Russia in this sphere is of special importance for us, given the fact that Russian companies already have contracts for nuclear fuel supplies to the UAE,” Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hamli.
