OREANDA-NEWS. January 09, 2013. The major bilateral creditor of Moldova remained Russia, NBM informs. A debt of Moldova to Russia on loans guaranteed by the government amounted to USD 84.68 mln. as of the end of September, 2012, USD 12.21 mln. (12.,6%) down since the beginning of the year.

The share of Russia made 42.5% of a total sum of the debt of Moldova to bilateral creditors as of the end of March, 2012. Another large bilateral creditor of Moldova has become the USA, whose share in the total sum of the debt of Moldova was USD 48.25 mln., 24.2% of the total sum of the debt of Moldova to its bilateral creditors.

 The bilateral indebtedness of Moldova to the USA reduced 0.8% since the beginning of the year. The debt of Moldova to Russia includes loans extended to the government of Moldova in the period between 1992-1993 to pay for energy sources.

A part of the debt at a sum of USD 43.4 mln. was restructured in line with agreements achieved by Moldova and Russia in the Paris Club in May, 2006.
