OREANDA-NEWS. January 09, 2013. The aggregate throughput of sea – born cargo in Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal in January – November of 2012 totalled 40,0 million tons, the overall year – on - year change was -4,7 percent down. 32,2 million tons were handled in Klaipeda Seaport throughout the analysed period, the year-on-year change was -4,4 pct. or -1,5 million tn, meanwhile Butinges terminal handled 7,8 million tn, the year-on-year change was -6,2 pct. or -0,5 million tn., reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.

Within the period of January – November of 2012 the handling volumes of agriculture products (+905,6 thou. tn yoy), raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+289,0 thou. tn yoy) and iron ore (+179,2 thou. tn yoy) and) marked an increase comparing with the corresponding period of 2011

The most significant drop down in cargo turnover throughout January – November of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 occurred due to decreased handling volumes of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers (-1 834,2 thou. tn yoy), oil products (-913,0 thou. tn yoy) and crude oil (-516,3 thou. tn yoy).

In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of liquid cargo decreased by 7,2 pct. yoy to 17 118,0 thou. tn (42,8 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).  Dry and bulk cargo handling volumes decreased by 4,4 pct. yoy, the handling rates of this cargo category were 12 821,5 thou. tn (32,0 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).

General cargo handling volumes decreased by 0,8 pct. yoy, the overall turnover in this cargo group was 10 073,1 thou. tn (25,2 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).

6 755 vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal throughout the period of January – November of 2012. 78 vessels (-7,1 pct. or less by 6 vessels yoy) moored at Butinges terminal. 4 510 international vessels (more by 61 vessel or +1,4 pct year-on-year) and 2 167 domestic ships ( more by 40  ships or 1,9 pct. yoy) were reported to call Klaipeda Port. Throughout the foregoing period of the current year 6 677 vessels were reported to call the Seaport of Klaipeda, hence the number of vessels calling Klaipeda Port increased by 101 vessel or by +1,5 pct. comparing with the corresponding period of 2011. The number of passengers calling the Port throughout the analysed period was 18 162, i.e. more by 6,0 pct. or by 18 162 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.
