OREANDA-NEWS. January 10, 2013. Moscow Cable Grids – branch of JSC “Moscow United Electric Grid Company” – have completed the works on switching of an artificial ice rink in Park of Culture and Rest “Sokolniki”. By the words of the park’s administration, this ice rink is the biggest one in Europe. The power engineers of the Cable Grids Management of the Eastern Administrative District have fulfilled a complex of arrangements to launch the facility: have sought the technical solution, installed new equipment, laid cable lines to energize ice plants (chillers)). To create artificial ice at the rink, the energy efficient Canadian technologies have been applied. The electric power consumption by two chillers is 590 kW, which is by 60% lower, than the similar equipment consumes.

As at the middle of December, MCG (Moscow Cable Grids) is finishing the ice rinks’ technological connection, stipulated by the city program. In the season of 2012-2013, over 120 artificial ice rinks will be opened in Moscow. By the specialists’ estimates, it will bring about an increase of ice quantity from 90 ths. to 230 ths. cubic meters. The power engineers provide them and associated infrastructure with electric power.

Beside connection of a unique ice rink, the power engineers together with the park’s administration have solved one more important task. A transformer substation, located to the right of the central entry to the park, has become many times an object for vandals. Its walls had many times inscriptions and pictures. They had to bear extra charges to restore the appearance. In November the graffiti painters drew fantasy pictures on the walls, using the agreed sketches. The energy facility has become an object of art. It’s aesthetic and beautiful, now holidayers have photographs taken against the background of the substation, not even suspending, what things are situated in the building.

The idea of the substations designing with the help of the artists will go further in 2013. Moscow Cable Grids – branch of JSC “MOESK” have confirmed a readiness to a dialogue with the Department of Culture of Moscow, as well as with other organizations concerned and institutions as to a preparation and carrying out of the arrangements within the framework of planned festival “Summer in city”. Moscow Cable Grids will determine a list and geographic location of the facilities of MCG, which will constitute the project of the complex transformation of the capital city’s space.
