OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2013. In the majority of regions winter grain crops are in a good or satisfactory condition. In general this year the situation with sprouts of winter crops is better as compared to last year. This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhniuk during the briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The current situation on winter crop fields is better than the previous year and in the majority of regions does not cause peculiar concern. The shoots of winter grain-crops have been obtained on 7.8 million hectares or on 96% of areas,” the Minister stressed.

So, according to the head of the Ministry, as being in a good or satisfactory state 7.1 million hectares are characterized which is 92% of areas, while being in a weak state - 0.7 million hectares which is 8%. Only in the Crimean Autonomous Republic and Luhansk region winter crops sprouted only on 61 – 73% of areas through the lack of precipitations in a period of sowing and autumn vegetation.

The Minister also added that weather conditions of January-February and March can set additional challenges.

“We understand that. We form reserves and are getting ready for re-sowing of the areas that can suffer,” Mykola Prysyazhniuk explained.
