OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2013. The average data transmission speed in Internet makes up 12.75 Mbps globally and 12.15 Mbps in Moldova, Net Index, a statistical resource, informs. By the Internet data transmission speed Moldova ranks the 18 among 180 states of the world.

The highest rate of the transmission recorded in Balti and made up 29.49 Mbps, Net Index reports. Then follow Chisinau – 27.22 Mbps, Benderi – 7.57 Mbps, Tighina – 5,.54 Mbps and Tiraspol – 4,94 Mbps. The capital of Moldova is listed among top 30 cities with the high Internet speed and has occupied in this list the 29th line. Globally, the highest Internet speed was recorded in Hong Kong, making 43.14 Mbps.

The group of ten pacemakers also included Singapore, Japan, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Taiwan, South Korea, Andorra, the Netherlands and Macao. Moldova’s neighbours – Romania and Bulgaria – occupied the 12th and 17th lines with the rates of 27.03 Mbps and 24.86 Mbps respectively. In the EU the Internet speed averaged 16.46 Mbps. Moldova left behind all CIS states by the speed of Internet connection.

To compare, Russia occupied the 24th line with the speed of 18.07 Mbps; Ukraine was the 27th (17.24 Mbps), Georgia ranked the 41st (12.73 Mbps). Globally, the lowest Internet speed was recorded in Congo, making 0.6 Mbps. Net Index ranks states on the basis of results of testing by the Internet speed by users themselves on Speedtest.net, another popular service.
