OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2013. Severstal, one of the world’s leading steel and steel-related mining companies, has been named as one of only six Russian companies in the Boston Consulting Group’s (BCG) Global Challengers report that identifies the 100 leading companies from fast-growing economies globally.

According to the BCG, many of the “rapidly globalizing” companies included in the report are already ahead of traditional global leaders from the USA and Europe by many measures and are playing a key role in the development of the global economy.

The BCG analyzed thousands of companies in the preparation of the report. In order to qualify, the companies must have an annual turnover of more than USD 1 billion, of which more than 10% (or at least USD 500 million) must be generated overseas.

Analysts from BCG studied the international presence of the companies, their international investments, M&A transactions over the past 5 years as well as the general stability of their business models. In addition to Severstal, other Russian companies included in the list were; Gazprom, Lukoil, Nornickel, Rusal and Vympelkom.
