OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2013. As a part of its community development efforts, Tata Power's Khandke wind operations site organised a veterinary health camp at Agadgaon village in association with the animal husbandry department, panchayat samiti, Ahmednagar, in Maharashtra. The objective of this initiative was to provide free medical consultancy, health check-up and treatment for animals in the region. The camp was inaugurated by Sunitatai Netke, sabhapati, panchayat samiti, Ahmednagar taluka, in the presence of several well-known people from Ahmednagar.

More than 350 animals were vaccinated in the camp for foot and mouth disease (FMD). During this camp, medicines for various diseases were distributed to the farmers. Fifteen doctors from the animal husbandry department extended their services to the camp. Besides the FMD vaccination, other basic treatment and a regular check-up was given to the animals.

More than 100 animals benefited through the medicines distributed at the camp for de-worming, and 450 animals benefited through medicines provided for tick eradication. The livestock of more than 100 farmers benefited through this camp.

Speaking on the initiative, S Padmanabhan, executive director, operations, Tata Power, said, “Tata Power is committed towards taking initiatives for the betterment of society. We are pleased with the response that we have received for the initiative and will continue our efforts to ensure that more communities benefit from such initiatives.”

In order to create awareness on general health care for animals, Dr AR Rajapure, livestock development officer, panchayat samiti, Ahmednagar, gave an informative speech and shared some basic tips. In her concluding speech, Ms Netke and other members of the camp appreciated Tata Power's efforts in organising this unique initiative and also felicitated the team of doctors and Tata Power officials.
