OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2013. Master Akshat Patel, a mini club member of Club Enerji, Tata Power’s nationwide energy conservation movement, single handedly undertook a Batti Bandh initiative in the housing society where he resides. Akshat, a standard VII student from Shree Narayan Guru Vidyalaya was responsible for sensitising 16 households in Mahavir Ankit Park and successfully encouraging them to switch off their lights for an entire half hour from 7pm to 7.30pm earlier this month.

Patel went door to door spreading the importance of energy conservation and urged every household in his society to switch off their lights for half an hour and be part of the unique Batti Bandh initiative undertaken by him.

Speaking about the initiative, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power, said, “The rationale behind engaging students through the Club Enerji initiative is to make them aware of the need to conserve and use energy judiciously while improving their sense of responsibility and involvement. We have been successful in this endeavour through the mini Club Enerji initiative. I am sure that the initiatives undertaken by students such as Akshat will take the Club Enerji ideology to the next level.”

Tata Power’s Club Enerji encourages students to form their own mini Energi Clubs in their school and societies to reach out to more citizens. The club also has various nationwide engagement programs such as Energy-Q (Quiz competition), Spark of Life (Poster-making contest), Every Watt Counts (essay competition), newsletter, and an exciting website. With informative and interesting publications such as the energy book Watts up with Energy?, activity booklets, audio-visuals and the TPEC anthem, the club aims at sensitising more than one million citizens and saving over three million units of electricity.

As of now, Club Enerji has reached out to more than 400 schools across India, sensitised more than 3.7 million people and saved more than 6.2 million units till date. This saving is equivalent to saving 6,200 tonnes of CO2 and is enough to light up approximately 2,900 houses for a year. Club Enerji has been awarded gold at the ABCI awards in the category of Best Communication Material and bronze for its Resource Conservation Module. It has been shortlisted as BEST PRAX for presentation at an international forum in Auckland in December. Asia Pacific Enterprise Leadership Awards (APELA), Singapore, has conferred APELA 2012 - Eco Advocate Award to Club Enerji. The club has been recognised in the 2012 International Business Awards with a Gold Stevie Award for being the best Marketing Campaign of the Year 2012 – Energy category.
