OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2013. The 37th edition of the Statistical outline of India (SOI), published by Tata Services’ department of economics and statistics, is now available in the market. The latest edition has 326 data tables spread across 23 sections presenting authentic economic data on various aspects of the economy in a reader-friendly manner. The SOI’s pocket-sized format is another USP of the publication.

Among the other things, the book throws light on the ‘demographic dividend’ that the country is likely to reap in the coming years, the current state of infrastructure (including agricultural infrastructure), spread of IT in the country, language-wise distribution of population across the states, defence expenditure, rising penetration of plastic money in the economy, 8th WTO ministerial round, inter-state and international comparisons of major economic indicators, the Union Budget (2012-13) proposals, etc. The statistical tables track crucial economic and social parameters at state, national, and international levels.

The SOI is available in two versions — book and CD-Rom. The CD has been modified to include several value added features such as presentation of data tables in html and excel versions, link facility for intra-section and inter-section movements, search world, bookmark etc.

The SOI is indispensable for CEOs, CFOs, chambers of commerce and industries, economists, researchers and students. It is a handy ready reference book about the Indian economy and useful in preparing reports, presentations, and speeches. The SOI is also a prized corporate gift — the book is priced at Rs500 (USD 25 outside India) and the CD costs Rs600 (USD 30).
