OREANDA-NEWS. February 01, 2013. Several new provisions of the Traffic Act entered into force. One of the provisions regulates the validity of the right to drive and the medical certificate forming the basis of the right to drive, reported the press-centre of Swedbank.

This may create a situation where the date indicated on the driving licence as the date when the holder has to apply for a new licence is in the distant future, but the date on the driving licence does not consider whether the holder has a valid medical certificate.

Holders of Swedbank’s motor third party liability and comprehensive insurance policies are protected even if they have not yet managed to extend their medical certificates.
Those who hold medical certificates on which the doctor has not noted an expiry date must submit a new medical certificate when they renew their driving licence, i.e. when their current licence expires.

We advise all driving licence holders to check that their medical certificates are valid. You can do this in the paper-free ARK environment: www.paberivaba.ark.ee.

The medical certificates of motor vehicle drivers are issued by GPs. Medical examinations for drivers of and applicants for the right to drive motor vehicles in categories D and DE and their subcategories, emergency vehicles in categories A, B and C and driving instructors are carried out by a traffic medicine committee that also issues the relevant medical certificates. The medical certificate must be submitted to the nearest office of the traffic register.
