OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2013. Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP, Qatar Petroleum recognized yesterday a total of 207 QP-sponsored Qatari students who have successfully completed their scholarships and training programs in Qatar and outside Qatar in various disciplines from January 2012 till August 2012, reported the press-centre of Qatar Petroleum.

The QP Graduates Recognition Ceremony 2013, which was organized by QP’s Corporate Training Department, honoured the following graduates:  3 Master’s degree, 126 Bachelor’s degree, 8 Higher National Diploma, 16 Diploma, 18 Office Practice Certificates, 25 Technician certificates from TAFE (Technical and Further Education), and 11 Fireman certificate from Ras Laffan Safety and Emergency College.

H.E. Dr. Al-Sada congratulated the graduates and presented each with a Certificate of Appreciation for their dedication in their studies and in recognition of their academic achievements. H.E the Minister stated that QP’s scholarship program is fully aligned with the pillar for human development as articulated in Qatar National Vision 2030. He expressed his trust that this batch of QP graduates would contribute significantly not only in the efficiency of the corporation’s extensive operations but also in the continued development of the State of Qatar.

In his speech during the event, QP Director of Administration Mr. Ahmad Ali Abdulla Al-Mawlawi also praised the graduates for their hard work and commitment in completion of their studies. “Consistent with the corporation’s strategic plan, we will continue to provide you with programs and opportunities for continued professional development as you undertake duties and responsibilities in your respective departments,” said Mr. Al-Mawlawi.

Among the highlights of the QP Graduates Recognition Ceremony 2013 was the showing of a video featuring students leaving Qatar to study abroad under QP’s first scholarship program in the late 1950s. H.E. Dr. Al-Sada subsequently honoured three pioneering QP scholars, namely Mr. Abdulla Yehya Al-Sailani Al-Yafei, Mr. Omar Ali Al-Mannai and Mr. Mubarak Saad Al- Qaatri Al-Mansouri, who then gave a speech describing his memorable experiences of working with QP a long time ago.

Another major highlight of the event was the video call between H.E. Dr. Al-Sada and three QP-sponsored students who are currently enrolled in the UK. H.E. the Minister asked the students about their studies, their life in a foreign country, as well as the challenges they face. The students eagerly shared their experiences and they also gave messages of congratulations and encouragement to the new QP graduates.

Many of the QP graduates completed their studies in Qatar, while others were enrolled in universities and academic institutions in Australia, France, the UK, and USA.

In line with QP’s scholarship program, their fields of study include engineering disciplines in Petroleum, Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, Industrial, Environmental and Computer Engineering. Other majors cover Computer Science, Geology, Fire and Safety, Logistics and Supply Chain, and Quantity Surveying.

Held at Qatar National Convention Centre, the QP Graduates Recognition Ceremony 2013 was attended by dignitaries from local institutes and universities, a number of senior QP officials as well as by the families and friends of the graduates.
