OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus’ chemical company OJSC Grodno Azot exported USD 168.87 million worth of nitrogen fertilizers in January-November 2012, down 38.82% year on year, a source in the profile ministry told reporters.

In volume terms, OJSC Grodno Azot exported 203,100 tonnes of nitrogen fertilizers (in terms of 100% nitrogen) to overseas markets in Jan-Nov 2012, down 28.74% on the year.

The expert attributes the decline in exports to a noticeable drop in nitrogen fertilizer prices on the world market. The average export price of nitrogen fertilizers dropped to USD 831 per tonne in Jan-Nov 2012 from USD 968 per tonne in Jan-Nov 2011.

Grodno Azot was set up in 1963 and transformed into an open joint-stock company in 2002. The Belarusian government holds a 99.97% stake. The annual capacity is estimated at 305,000 tonnes of sulphuric acid, 645,700 tonnes of nitrogen fertilizers, 111,200 tonnes of caprolactam and 55,400 tonnes of methanol.

Grodno Azot is the main producer of liquid ammonia, nitrogen fertilizers, methanol, caprolactam, biodiesel fuel.
