OREANDA-NEWS. Sumitomo Corporation hereby announces that Sumitomo in consortium with Alstom has been awarded the contract for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of North Bangkok combined cycle power plant (CCPP) Block 2 (North Bangkok 2 Power Plant), from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

Sumitomo Corporation won the EPC contract as a result of the international tender opened in February 2012, where the Consortium's proposal was chosen as the most competitive out of 4 bidders in both technical and commercial aspects. The EPC contract of the Consortium is collectively worth almost USD 500 million.

The North Bangkok 2 Power Plant, which will enter into commercial operation in January 2016, will be constructed on the property of EGAT headquarters in Bangkok. Its 850MW capacity will make it one of the country's largest power plants and will contribute to the rising power demand from the steady economic growth of the Kingdom of Thailand. The plant, to be fueled by natural gas, will utilize a combined cycle power plant technology with a high efficiency gas-turbine (GT) and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). Steam produced by hot exhausts from the GT will drive the steam turbine (ST) to generate electricity, using less fuel and resulting in excellent environmental performance.
