OREANDA-NEWS. February 08, 2013. A press conference, devoted to the state and further development of telecommunications in Uzbekistan, was held in Tashkent.

The event was organized by the State committee of communications, informatization and telecommunications technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with Uzbektelecom joint-stock company.

At the session of the Cabinet of Ministers, dedicated to the results of socio-economic development of Uzbekistan in 2012 and the main priority directions of economic program for 2013 President Islam Karimov underlined the huge importance of accelerated realization of measures and projects in information-communications and telecommunications technologies sector. He accentuated that more than two thousand kilometers of fiber-optic broadband lines based on modern technologies, which allow video telephony, internet TV, high-speed Internet, HDTV channel views, have to be completed this year.

First deputy directior of Uzbektelecom JSC Qahramon Yuldashev noted that the company is larget telecommunications provider in Uzbekistan covering the whole territory of the country. In 2012 aiming to further develop telecommunications networks and to introduce new modern services the company realized several large investment projects  and will continue works in this direction this year as well. Within the investment program of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2012 construction of 175km-long fiber-optic lines from Boysun to Denov and from Urgut to Shakhrisabz  were completed. The capacity of international communications centres increased 2 times, that of the Centre of the International packet communications grew 4 times. This allowed to  raise the internet connection speed up to 40 Gbit/s and the number of internet users, as well as to cut the prices.

In order to render modern telecommunications services to population and enhance the quality of services on the basis of new generation networks (NGN) technologies, the modernisation of commutation stations, used in local telecommunications networks, was carried out. To develop mobile commmunication services, in particular, organisation of broadband data transfer through CDMA mobile networks, 140 base station were mounted and 5 commutation centres were built. As a result of realization of this project the network coverage rate of the population reached 71 percent.

During the press conference it was noted that the works will continue within the Presidential resolution “On investment program of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2013” dated from 21 November 2012. In particular, implementation phase of the “Development of CDMA-450 mobile network using EVDO technology in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including in rural areas” project has already started.

The “Broad development of broadband fiber-optic networks on the basis of FTTx technologies” project, aimed at rendering broadband multiservices (including, IPTV, video telephony, broadband Internet, HDTV and others) allows to install 110 000 ports additionally.  Within the “enhancing and reserving backbone networks of the Uzbektelecom JSC to district centres of the Republic of Uzbekistan” project increases in the capacity of communications channels in international directions to up to 100 Gbit/s, in regional centres - to up to 40 Gbit/s, in district centres to up to 10 Gbit/s are planned.

Short-term goals of the Uzbektelecom JSC includes connectiong 200 professional colleges of Uzbekistan to the “Electronic education” national network.
