OREANDA-NEWS. Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology, and communications solutions, today announced the FLASHWAVE CDS Micro Packet Optical Networking Platform (Packet ONP), for Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching. Built on in-house designed OTN technology for superior performance, the FLASHWAVE CDS 6.1 complies with industry standards while exceeding the competition by providing 80G of non-blocking (any to any) ODU0/1/2 switching within a 2RU rack space – the highest available density in the industry.

Fujitsu now offers an OTN switch that supports the transport of Ethernet and SONET services with the same level of robustness and functionality for which the company’s earlier products are known. Many Service Providers, including those serving enterprise customers and those providing cellular backhaul services, must transport different types of data ranging from legacy SONET to transparent Ethernet. OTN is the ideal technology for this converged network and the FLASHWAVE CDS 6.1 with its switching capabilities will prove to be a valuable tool for those Service Providers. The switching capabilities allow the OTN unit of the FLASHWAVE CDS to not only act as a capable Muxponder, but also provides the functionality for versatile protection switching schemes, hairpinning applications, and distributed switching applications, thereby providing smoother operations for managing and troubleshooting the network.

The OTN unit has a wide range of pluggable optics options including an 88 channel Full Band Tuneable XFP that allows the user to bypass transponders when co-located with ROADMs for significant Capital Expenditure (Capex) savings. This ideal solution is easily designed, provisioned, and operated, utilizing Fujitsu’s NETSMART Management complex that will decrease the Carrier’s needed Operational Expenditure (Opex) investment.
