OREANDA-NEWS. February 21, 2013. As noted in the speech of the President Islam at the recent session of the Cabinet of Ministers, over 3 million 460 thousand tons of cotton, 7.5 million tons of grain, more than 2 million tons of potatoes and 9 million tons of vegetable and melon production were harvested in Uzbekistan in 2012.

This was discussed at a joint meeting of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Agriculture and Water Affairs and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water Management and Ecology. The event was attended by members of the Legislative Council, senators, officials from ministries of finance, economy, agriculture and water management, the Farmers Council of Uzbekistan, State Committee for Nature Protection, "Yergeodezkadastr", representatives of other agencies and the experts.

The Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan B.Alihanov, chairman of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber on Agriculture and Water Management M.Teshaboev, chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water Management and Ecology H.Razzakov, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Z.Ruziev, Chairman Farmers Council of Uzbekistan S.Turdiev and others noted that the consistent works carried out in agriculture is the basis of the sustainability of the economy and the welfare of people. The decree of President Islam Karimov "On measures to improve organizing activity and the development of farming in Uzbekistan" dated 22 October 2012 provides new opportunities in this area.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources and the Farmers Council of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Parliament are actively working to strengthen the legal framework of the sphere. A number of projects on development of rural services,  establishment of consulting centers, creation of new jobs, expansion of various cooperation forms for farms on harvesting, processing and marketing of products, improving the socio-political, economic and legal knowledge of farmers, creation of favorable conditions for the production of import-substituting and export-oriented products.

The participants exchanged views on ways of further improving the existing laws in the agricultural sector, learned about the innovations in the sphere of law and in effective use of available capacity.
