OREANDA-NEWS. February 21, 2013. In January the turnover of agricultural products and green oil cargos has quickly increased. Thereby the increased Ro-ro and container cargo handling reflects recovery of growth of the demand for consumable goods, reported the press-centre of Port of Klaipeda. 

In January 2013 in Port of Klaipeda and Butinge Terminal 3.90 mln. tones were handled, which make 6.0 percent or at 221.0 thous. tones more than in January 2012.

The increase was mainly impacted by the turnover of agricultural products (3100 thous. tones were handled, +3 times or + 206.6 thous. t) and green oil (999.9 thous. tones, + 24.9 percent or +199.6 thous. tones) cargoes. In January 2013 in Port of Klaipeda container handling has increased - 30 464 TEU were handled, variation +10.6 percent or +2 909 TEU.

Increase of Ro-ro cargos was observed both in units and tones, appropriately +963 units (in January 2013 19 971 units were handled) and +24.5 thous. tones (375.3 thous. tones were handled), comparing with the corresponding month of the year 2012.

Handling of containers (TEU) and ro-ro (units and thous. tones) in January 2013 shows that growth of the demand for consumable goods has being recovering.  In January 2013 handling of granular fertilizers has much decreased – 542.4 thous. Tones were handled (-13.0 percent or -80.8 thous. tones).
