OREANDA-NEWS. To commemorate Industrial Energy’s (a joint venture between Tata Power and Tata Steel) 6th incorporation day at power house 6, Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, organised a tree plantation drive which was attended by teams from IEL, Tata Power and Tata Steel.

To mark the occasion, saplings were planted by the leadership team which included SK Pati, Director, IEL; DM Chowdhary, GM – power generation projects, Tata Steel; Avneesh Gupta chief- electrical maintenance, Tata Steel; R Venkatram, CEO – IEL; and DS Kudalkar, head-Jojobera station, Tata Power. The team also visited the control room of the plant and interacted with employees. The visiting Tata Steel officials appreciated the energetic team and well maintained systems at IEL.

Speaking on the occasion, R Venkatram, CEO – IEL, said, “We believe that meeting the needs of our customer is key to ‘sustainable growth’. IEL is committed to creating value for its customer – Tata Steel and ensuring that its needs are met on sustainable basis through the strategic pillars of operational excellence and execution excellence.”

Industrial Energy (IEL), a joint venture between Tata Power (74 percent) and Tata Steel (26 percent), was set up on February 7, 2007, for setting up captive power plants to cater to the needs of Tata Steel. IEL started commercial generation from the first gas based unit of 120MW power house 6 from August 27, 2009, in Jamshedpur and from the second coal based unit 120 MW Unit 5 from March 27, 2011, in Jojobera located adjacent to the existing units 1 to 4 of Tata Power. Tata Steel is consuming the entire power for their captive needs under a power purchase agreement (PPA) whereas the entire operations are carried out by Tata Power for IEL under an operation and maintenance services agreement (OMSA). Fuel is supplied by Tata Steel under a fuel aupply agreement (FSA). IEL is pursuing growth opportunities along with Tata Steel in Jharkhand and Orissa.
