OREANDA-NEWS. NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport invited the largest online retailers operating in the territory of Russia to collaboration concerning creation of distribution centers for Internet trading.

Developed by the airport, the web stores engagement programme conforms with the cargo traffic development strategy of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport. It considers creation of favorable conditions for construction of online retailers’ warehouse complexes close to the airport cargo terminal. Building of such distribution centers at air hubs is commonly practiced in the USA where the Internet trading market leaders (Amazon, Zappos etc.) allocate their logistics centers in close proximity to the largest airports.

The leading Russian cargo airlines as well as the largest foreign carriers perform their flights to NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport. Besides the top forwarding companies and cargo courier services located within the region, the automatized distribution center of Russian Post is being constructed not far from the air hub. Directly in NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport the structural subdivision of EMS Russian Post is being established intended for air mailings processing. In this way, technical characteristics of the air hub allow to employ single processing technology in case of goods dispatched by air, thus, substantially reducing delivery time and logistics expenses.

“Taking into account all these factors and high demand for air carriage of goods purchased on the Internet as well as considering proximity of M-52 Federal Highway and the Trans-Siberian Railway, Novosibirsk airport could be regarded as an inviting spot for web stores’ distribution centers oriented to retailing in the Urals, Siberia and Far East regions. In this case, online retailers will be allowed to substantially reduce expenses associated with goods delivery”, commented the General Director of Tolmachevo Airport JSC Evgeniy Yankilevich.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest transit air hub in the Asian part of Russia. The airport has two runways, provides handling services of regular cargo flights of both Russian and foreign airlines such as AirBridgeCargo, Aeroflot, Volga-Dnepr, Cargolux, Air Cargo Germany, Air China Cargo, Yangtze River Express and others. Capacity of the freight complex Tolmachevo Cargo makes up 50,000 tons per year.In 2013 it expects to handle over 35,000 tons of cargo and mail (+25%). The airport has been nominated for World Routes Awards in the category “The Best Airport of CIS 2012”.
