OREANDA-NEWS. March 14, 2013. Some media reported that air passengers would have to pay a new charge. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) would like to state that this information is incorrect.

On 4th March 2013 various media published an article “Bureaucrats came up with another tax upon air passengers”, according to which the Ministry of transport and FAS Russia prepared a draft decree of the Government of the Russian Federation introducing a new charge upon air passengers. As written in the media, the funds obtained through the new tax will be used for developing infrastructure of airports, [particularly, in Moscow. The tax will be imposed either as a fixed charge upon every passenger, or as a part of the revenue from selling air fares. In both cases it will be included in the air fare.

FAS would like to emphasize that FAS has not been consulted about expediency of a new special passenger charges and a draft regulations on introducing such charges has not been forwarded to FAS for approval.
