OREANDA-NEWS. Latvian airline airBaltic has made further improvements to its self-service check-in, by opening it 72 hours prior to flight departure instead of the 36 hours previously.

Michael Grimme, Chief Commercial Officer of airBaltic: “We were delighted to achieve a situation where more than 50% of passengers use our self-service check-in in the very first month of making improvements to our systems. We believe that extending the self-service check-in period will make it more convenient, and encourage more people to use this alternative.”

airBaltic introduced a range of improvements to its online and mobile check-in service on February 1, 2013. In addition to better functionality, self-service check-in is since then available for up to 1 hour before the flight departure, instead of the 2 hours previously. This allows better flexibility for passengers checking-in from their mobile devices, while on their way to the airport or at the airport. Self-service check-in now opens 72 hours before the flight. After completing self-service check-in, passengers travelling light with their hand baggage only, proceed directly to security screening; passengers with check-in baggage leave it at a designated baggage drop-off counter.

All customers with a preference to personal check-in are offered this service at the airport at a fee of EUR 10/LVL 7. Customers opting for check-in at the Business class counter, are offered Priority Check-in service, available for purchase at www.airBaltic.com. Personal check-in service at airBaltic airports is offered free of charge to Business Flex and Business class passengers, BalticMiles VIP card holders, passengers with children up to 2 years old, passengers requiring special service/medical assistance, and passengers travelling from airports, where self-service check-in is not available.
