OREANDA-NEWS. OJSC Belarusian Metallurgical Plant (BMZ, Zhlobin, Gomel Region) is considering the prospects of building a mini-plant with a capacity to produce 1.5 million tonnes of iron-rich pellets a year, a company representative told.

Also, BMZ plans to arrange for special-quality steel production at 300,000 tonnes a year.

Rolled steel produced by BMZ will be used as a basic material for manufacturing small-section rods and metal cord at OJSC Rechitsa Hardware Plant. Rolled steel produced by BMZ will also be used as a basic material for producing prestressed cables at OJSC Legmash (Orsha, Vitebsk Region) and automotive components at OJSC SITOMO (Kobrin, Brest Region).

State-owned company Belarusian Metallurgical Plant was launched in 1984. BMZ exports about 85% of its output. Non-CIS countries account for more than 70% of the BMZ’s exports.
