OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2013. A delegation of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) led by Deputy Head of FAS Andrey Tsyganov took part in the XVI International Competition Conference organized by Germany’s Federal Cartel Office.

Participants included representatives of competition authorities and the leading world experts specializing on competition law. The Conference discussed a broad range of the current legal and economic issues. For instance, considerable attention was paid to use of economic analysis in control over mergers, the issues of competition on changing markets of digital economy, as applying “proper legal procedures” in different jurisdictions.

Reports at the Conference were given by Professor Philipp Ressler, the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology; Gunther Oettinger, the EU Energy Commissioner; Professor Karl-Ludwig Kley, the Chairman of the Executive Board of Merck KGaA and the President of German Chemical Industry Association, as well as the Heads of competition authorities of Germany, France, the UK, Mexico and other countries.

“In Berlin we took part in a discussion on the principal issues of competition policy: to what extent decisions of the antimonopoly bodies depend on the government policy, what is the place of competition in achieving the social progress goals, are global agreements in the field of antitrust required”, commented Deputy Head of FAS Russia Andrey Tsyganov. “Today all these issues concern members of academia, politicians and government officials in different countries across the globe”.

International Competition Conference is organized annually since 1980 and is one of the most known international events on competition law, bringing together the heads of competition authorities and experts on competition law across the world. The previous Conference in 2011 was attended by 350 participants from over 60 countries to discuss competition issues of international importance.
