OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2013. Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) was the first university to use the new-generation interactive 3D building guide. As a result of cooperation of TUT and two Estonian companies — 3D Technologies R&D and ML Novator — a new multimedia and information terminal was born, which owing to its parameters and capacity is quite unique in the whole world.

The device is using a multi-point infrared touch technology (resolution 16384 x 16384 pixels), which is the best large-scale touch sensor on the market. The device is 2-3 times more energy efficient in comparison with the previous generation solution.

“It is the world’s top product in terms of hardware and software. Its capacity is unique too. TUT building guide covers more than 1000 rooms on 133,000 square meters of space. For example, such sort of guides are used in England’s hospitals, which are smaller than TUT,” TUT Board Member Heiki Lemba said.

“As a university of technology we want young people and innovative ideas to find their way to TUT. During open day when a record number of 2000 visitors attended it, people used the 3D building guide for finding classrooms, service points, dining and leisure places. The device can search by employee, position or place. By autumn we are planning to make the guide available on smartphones and link it with different information systems,” Lemba added.

“The building guide is available in English as well, because TUT is one of the most multicultural organisations in Estonia with 1100 foreign students and teachers from about 80 countries. Representatives of the world’s leading universities, research institutions, representatives of companies and investors are among the most active visitors of TUT. We have left a good impression on them,” Lemba said.

Two Estonian companies participated in the development of the building guide — software company 3D Technologies R&D AS and hardware company ML Novator OU. The software is 100% developed, designed and produced in Estonia.
