At the opening ceremony, Mr. Zhou Jiping addressed the audience pointing out that this is the first time for China to host IPTC, which in itself is a great event. Entering the new century, faced with severe challenges and technological difficulties, the world petroleum industry increasingly relies on technological innovation. Changes of global energy pattern and the common challenges call for further international exchanges and cooperation. Namely, we need to give access to each other’s market, technology, capital and resources to share interests as well as risks, and realize common development. In addition, only when we keep developing healthily and sustainably can we provide the energy driving force for socio-economic development and contribute more for the sustainable development of mankind.

Rotating between Asia Pacific and the Middle East, the IPTC is a collaborative effort among the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). It is also widely participated by major IOCs, NOCs and technical service companies worldwide.
