OREANDA-NEWS. General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies has introduced Data+, an elective upgrade to the Cineflex ELITE stabilized camera system that layers system-specific metadata onto Super 35 Format video, enabling advanced post-production editing. The Data+ feature will allow cinematographers to use the Cineflex ELITE for feature film production requiring computer-generated imagery (CGI) integration.

Data+ helps streamline and simplify the post-production process by allowing directors to orient CGI objects to the camera’s perspective. This enhancement provides the operator with full situational awareness by layering system metadata, including the gimbal position (azimuth/elevation), lens focus, iris zoom and timestamp, onto the Cineflex video display.

The Data+ upgrade records all metadata onto separate media to facilitate efficient transfer to video editing systems. With all metadata recorded on a standard SD card, the production team can simply remove the card from the Cineflex ELITE and readily utilize the Data+ synchronous metadata with the pure Cineflex video.

“The advanced capability of Data+ combined with the proven performance Cineflex ELITE represents the culmination of ten years of Cineflex innovation and development,” said Bob McGill, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies. “With computer generated imagery playing a significant role in just about every feature film production today, Data+ allows cinematographers to bring the quality of Cineflex imagery to the big screen in an entirely new way.”

Data+ also provides Cineflex ELITE systems with a network-enabled Ethernet interface for simplified wireless installation. This allows users to remotely control an airborne camera system from the ground. The Data+ interface also enables the synchronization of multiple Cineflex systems on a shared network, providing increased, coordinated coverage of a desired area.
