OREANDA-NEWS. April 17, 2013. To meet the growing demand of its government and enterprise customers, Verizon has doubled the capacity of its Fyshwick data center in Canberra. Verizon now has more than 75,000 square feet of data center floor space in Australia, divided among centers in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. The Fyshwick expansion is the latest example of Verizon’s ongoing investments to make advanced IT solutions available to global customers.

Verizon’s network incorporates more than 200 data centers strategically located in 24 countries around the world. The Fyshwick facility delivers a broad range of services including co-location, managed security services, secure gateway, virtual hosting, secure Internet gateway and identity management services, and connects to the federal government’s ICON fiber network.

“The Fyshwick expansion will meet both current and future demand for data center space in Canberra,” said John Karabin, area vice president of Verizon Australia and New Zealand. “We have a distinguished legacy of working with federal government agencies around the world, and this expansion is a further commitment to providing Australian enterprises and government agencies with the most secure hosting environment for their mission-critical applications.”

In 2012, Verizon announced that it had been awarded a Gatekeeper accreditation and a Common Criteria product certification (UniCERT) by the Australian government, recognizing the company’s proficiency in delivering specific Identity Access Management solutions that enable the secure delivery of key online government services.
