OREANDA-NEWS. April 17, 2013. A new high carbon martensitic steel product, 6Cr13 precision strip with thickness of 0.1mm, was successfully trial-produced by TISCO’s Precision Strip Company. The initial testing of the product indicates that the performance indexes are excellent.

The trial production of 6Cr13 precision strip shows that Precision Strip Company has made an important step on the road of upgrading its product mix. 6Cr13 precision strip is mainly used in the razor blade industry. The product is very difficult to produce because it has high carbon content that results in poor toughness of the material, and cracks commonly occurred during the conventional slitting process.

Now the major precision strip producers in China don’t have the production technology of 6Cr13. The demands to this raw material of the high-end users, such as the Gillette Company, mainly depend on importation. The successful trial-production of the product by Precision Strip Company after a lot of efforts lays the process and technology foundation for the mass production.

The samples have been sent to the well-known domestic companies for experiments. Along with the continuous improvement of the process, 6Cr13 is expected to substitute for the imports and becomes a star product in Precision Strip Company.
