OREANDA-NEWS.  In the 1st quarter of 2013 JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (“SP of SPb”) handled 1.8 mln tons of cargoes, which is by 16% less than the similar figure of the last year.

This decrease of the turnover was caused by specifics of demand at the world market. In particular, the consumption and hence the production of ferrous metals, which are the main cargo of the company, decreased.

In January-March handling volumes of general cargoes of “SP SPb” reduced by 24%, up to 1.38 mln. tons. In particular, volumes of ferrous metals decreased by 39%, to 478 thousand tons; handling volumes of scrap metals decreased by 44%, to 103 thousand tons. Volumes of non-ferrous metals decreased insignificantly by 3%, amounting to 457 thousand tons. Volumes of ro-ro cargoes reduced by 16%, to 206 thousand tons.

And handling volumes of bulk cargoes increased by 31%, up to 423 thousand tons (mainly due to the growth of handling volumes of mineral fertilizers 3.5 times, up to 213 thousand tons).

In general, volumes of export cargoes of “SP of SPb” decreased by 17% and amounted to 1.36 mln. tons, import cargo flow decreased by 12%, to 440 thousand tons.
