OREANDA-NEWS. May 01, 2013. CEO Chung Joonyang received the `Steelmaker of the Year` award from the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST), boasting global prestige.

AIST, which is based in Pittsburgh of the U.S., has been awarding the `Steelmaker of the Year` award each year since 1991 to leaders of companies that have contributed to steel technology innovation at international academic conferences and shined among the steel industry.
AIST highly evaluated CEO Chung Joonyang`s knowledge of steel technology, on-site safety, recognition of securing materials, passion for developing new technologies, and global expansion, as well as efforts of shared growth between the steel industry and steel consumption industries, selecting him as the recipient for the 2013 `Steelmaker of the Year` award.

AIST also added that POSCO, which is ranked 4th in the steel industry, is the most profitable steel company in Asia with high global competitiveness, and contributed greatly to the industrial and economic development of Korea during the past 45 years.

AIST, based in the U.S., is a non-profit organization with 16,000 members consisting of specialists and students of more than 70 countries. The association`s goals are to promote technology development, production, processing, and utilization of steel, and accordingly develops and operates programs for exchange and education, as well as sustainability between steelmakers and suppliers, and related academia.

CEO Chung Joonyang will receive the `Steelmaker of the Year` award at `AISTech 2013` to be held for 4 days from May 6th, hosted by AIST at the Pittsburgh David Lawrence Convention Center.

During this year`s event, approximately 400 new announcements will be made on steel-related manufacturing technology. At the exposition to be hosted simultaneously, 500 companies will participate by offering their new technologies in a 22,018? space.

Former AIST `Steelmaker of the Year` award recipients include Chairman Lakshmi Mittal of ArcelorMittal, Chairman Ratan Tata of Tata Group, Chairman DiMicco of Nucor, Chairman Johannpeter of Gerdau, and Chairman Rocca of Techint Group.
