Taiwan is launching a trade fair in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province.

The fair is believed to be the largest ever of its kind, with more than 500 Taiwan-based firms  present.

The event is scheduled for April 27 to 30 at the Anhui International Convention and Exhibition Center in the Economic and Technological Development District.

Visitors will be greeted by a kaleidoscope of made-in-Taiwan commodities, ranging from agricultural products to apparel, cosmetics, sports goods and cultural products.

Among 15 pavilions, the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion and the Agricultural Excellence Pavilion are the highlights, according to Lai Dengke, who works for the Nanjing Office of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

"The Taiwan Excellence Pavilion showcases products that have won the Taiwan Excellence Award," Lai said. The award, delivered by the TAITRA, is based on four criteria: R& D, design, quality and marketing.

The Agricultural Excellence Pavilion, he added, is wowing visitors with special farm produce like butterfly orchids with the longest stem in the planet, a new variety of flamingo flowers and various Taiwanese fruits.

The event is jointly held by authorities from Anhui and Taiwan, including the provincial government of Anhui, the Anhui Branch of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the TAITRA.
