OREANDA-NEWS. The invention of roof solar energy power system, developed by a team led by Lv Hui, an associate professor of China's Hubei University of Technology, won a special gold price at the 41st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. It was the first gold prize of the kind won by a mainland university.

According to Lv Hui, the technology applies the condenser-spectrophotometric principle, which focuses the solar light by planar Fresnel lens and splits the light projected on the new PV materials to make full use of solar energy. Average PV materials utilize 20% of solar light. However this system can utilize up to 44%. The generated power on the same area is double than that of conventional crystalline silicon PV. The energy recovery circle for the conventional PV is 6 to 7 years, compared with 6 to 7 months for the new invention. What’s more, the technology uses cheaper and more easily obtained batteries, Fresnel lenses and other materials. Its massive application can bring the cost lower than nuclear power and thermal power.

The technology has applied 10 patents in the U.S. and China, 3 of which have been approved.
