OREANDA-NEWS. The Chilean Ministry of Environment offered Gerdau the Sustainable Management recognition due to the recycling and environmental education project that has been developed by Gerdau in the Easter Island since 2009. Part of the recyclable material collected by the population and by Gerdau was used to build the first ecohouse made of recyclable material in the island, which is located more than 3,000 kilometers from mainland. In addition, more than 90 tons of scrap are being sent from the island to mainland Chile to be recycled at Colina Plant. The scrap will be used as steel for civil construction.
