OREANDA-NEWS. May 21, 2013. A meeting of the Public Council under Rosprirodnadzor following the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between Rosprirodnadzor and MMC Norilsk Nickel was held in Krasnoyarsk.

The agreement signed on August 31, 2010, envisaged Norilsk Nickel’s commitment to reduce emissions of pollutants for three years, including plans for the modernization of specific workshops of the plant.

At the meeting it was noted that for the last three years, Norilsk Nickel achieved good results in reducing the environmental damage. In particular, the Company is implementing the reconstruction and modernization of its operations, landscape gardening is under way in Norilsk, air quality monitoring and public warning system is employed.

‘For us, this agreement served as an incentive for action’, said Igor Pisarev,  Director of the Environmental Protection Department of MMC Norilsk Nickel.  ‘We can be proud that we have come to a mutual understanding on issues related to environmental protection laws and that our monitoring activities are recognized as effective by independent experts’.

By the end of 2012 solid emissions had been reduced by 1,690 t (16%) as compared to 2011.
