OREANDA-NEWS. May 31, 2013. The Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) Igor Artemiev moderated a Round Table on “Developing and Transforming Economy through the Prism of Fair Competition” at the VI Economic Forum in Astana.

Summing up the Forum, the Eurasian Economic Commission and the antimonopoly bodies of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space signed a Statement of Intent. It reflected the Parties’ intentions to devise the Common Strategy for developing competition policy within the Common Economic Space on the basis of the best world practices.

The Parties also expressed their desire to form a collegium of antimonopoly bodies in the 3 + 1” format as the Headquarters for coordinating the actions described in the Common Strategy, and organizing joint inspections.

“It is bona fide behavior of the state and business that underlies competition policy. We can say that successful economies are those that carried out efficient competition policy”, said Igor Artemiev.

The Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Competition Protection, Boltabek Kuandykov; the Head of Austria’s competition authority, Theodor Tanner; Nobel Prize laureates John Nash and James Alexander Mirrlees; former prime-minister of Italy, Romano Prodi, etc., took part in the Round Table.

At the VI Astana Economic Forum the Head of FAS Igor Artemiev also had meetings with Hassan Qaqaya, the Head of the Department on Competition Law and Consumer Policy, the Conference of the United Nations on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); and Nurettin Kaldirimci, the President of Turkey’s competition authority on developing cooperation in competition policy and enforcement.
