OREANDA-NEWS. May 31, 2013. Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov has instructed to speed up work at a draft decision on including Ukrainian scientists into the composition of the Skolkovo Foundation’s Scientific Advisory and Industrial Councils.

The head of Government appointed head of State Agency for Science, Innovations and Informatization Volodymyr Semynozhenko to be responsible for this section of activity.

“I authorize the head State Agency on Science, Innovations and Informatization V.Semynozhenko to develop and propose to the Government all necessary decisions to enhance cooperation with the Skolkovo innovation center,” Mykola Azarov stressed during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

He reminded that understanding on attracting of national scientists to the activity of the Skolkovo innovation center had been achieved last week with prominent representatives of the scientific community at the Ukraine-Russia-Skolkovo International Conference and a session of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Skolkovo Innovation Foundation in Kiev, which was held at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

“There was adopted a very important decision: Ukrainian representatives will be included to the Scientific Advisory Council and Industrial Council of Skolkovo Foundation. The draft of relevant decision must be developed and approved soon, because participation in this global international project for Ukraine is a real chance to achieve our strategic goal: maximize innovation potential for strengthening the national economy, multiplying our competitive advantages at world markets targeting a substantial increase of welfare of the citizens,” Mykola Azarov stressed.

In such a way, Ukrainian scientists will have a chance to work at creating of high technologies, materials and products along five directions or clusters, in which the Skolkovo Foundation operates: biomedicine, information technology, energy, space and nuclear technology. Also there is considered a possibility of targeted investment projects in Ukraine - based on solutions of our specialists.

Mykola Azarov noted that Ukrainian leadership positions in various fields of science had been highly appreciated by the most authoritative experts. So, Nobel Prize Laureates - Roger Kornberg from U.S. and Russian Academician Jaures Alferov, as well as other big heads of science, singled out the achievements of Ukraine in immunobiology, creation of new materials and nuclear research. For instance, Roger Kornberg, a biochemist with a worldwide reputation noted, our advances in biotechnology met the highest modern standards.

The Premier emphasized the need to unite efforts for the sake of creating new technologies and scientific-technological clusters along the latest directions, as it would lead to GDP growing in times.
