OREANDA-NEWS. Latvenergo AS participated in the Baltic Development Forum (BDF) Summit, where there was an opportunity to discuss cooperation with various Baltic Sea region institutions and large businesses in planning joint projects. The forum promotes exchange of opinions on energy supply safety, energy efficiency, energy generation from renewable energy sources, as well as opportunities for cooperation for the Baltic Sea region's growth and development.

Cooperation with neighbouring countries is important for Latvenergo AS as the energy sector leader in Latvia to ensure the integration of the European countries and liberalization of the sector’s energy market in the Baltic Sea region.

A number of important issues, among which cooperation of the Baltic Sea region countries is very significant, had to be raised in the Baltic Development Forum session on the energy sector, meanwhile also reviewing and providing an overview of the current projects and plans in the region.

The main energy issues under the current Baltic energy deficit conditions are the diversification of generation capacity using renewable energy sources, energy supply reliability and security, as well as a competitive electricity market that can offer the required amount of safe energy to consumers. These issues indicate that in the energy sector the diversity in the structure of types of cooperation between the region’s countries gains increasing importance. European and regional country cooperation structures and their initiatives in the Baltic Sea region ensure a solid platform for development, growth and competitiveness.

Participants of the BDF Summit in Riga discussed the possibilities of achieving a common goal – the development of competitiveness, innovation and business in the region – within the framework of various forms of regional cooperation structures and initiatives, including the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, the Northern Dimension, the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP), the Council of Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the Baltic Sea Region Energy Co-operation (BASREC).

The Baltic Development Forum Summit in Riga is held with the goal to promote the economic competitiveness of the Baltic Sea region countries in terms of sustainable economic growth and infrastructure development, as well as in other aspects in accordance with the European Union (EU) Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.

Latvenergo AS is a participant of the Baltic Development Forum (BDF) since 2003 and a gold patron of the 2013 BDF Summit in Riga.
