OREANDA-NEWS. The World Trade Center Moscow held the US-Russian forum on the standardization and evaluation of accordance. The organizer of the event was the World Trade Center Moscow, the US Ministry of Trade, the US Embassy and the bilateral US-Russian presidential committee.

The main topics of discussion included standardization in Russia and the USA, the roles of each country in harmonizing and actualizing evaluations of accordance. The general director of the World Trade Center Moscow, Vladimir Salamatov, told the audience about the existence of a system of standardization in Russia and about the qualitative changes in the regulatory framework as a result of the negotiations for Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

"Today we discussed a whole range of important questions. One of the main topics was the cooperation between our two countries in the sphere of the standardization of medical equipment. Developments in innovation of our two countries, and the world as a whole, have reached a level where it is necessary to devise common strategies and solutions in order for the economy to develop more effectively and to support the growth of production," Mr. Salamatov said.

The following organizations took part in the forum: the US Ministry of Trade, the US-Russian bilateral presidential committee, the National Institute of Standards and Technologies, the US National Institute of Standardization, the US-Russia Business Council, Underwriters Laboratories, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) and Rossakreditatsia.

During the forum the audience was presented with a few examples of Russian and US best practices in the implementation of World Trade Organization agreements on technical barriers to trade and the proper enactment of normative regulation.

The general director of the World Trade Center Moscow, Vladimir Salamatov, praised the achieved results of the event, especially focusing on the willingness of the US side to cooperate and collaborate in the future.

"We can see that working through the questions raised at this forum is not of a small importance to the US government. We can confidently say that we have reached a mutual understanding on all the questions and also have made big plans for collaboration on future projects," said Mr. Salamtov.
