OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company's 100 percent subsidiary, Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL) conducted an onsite disaster management drill at the Mundra UMPP in order to review and validate its disaster management plan.

The disaster management drill was organised under the direction of KK Sharma, the CEO, since the company places immense importance on preparedness measures to deal with major emergencies as well as the safety and security of the plant. The drill was conducted in the fuel storage area, as the risk for fire is the highest in this area. The emergency was mitigated with the help of in-house resources and three fire vehicles from Mutual Aid Group members.

The handling of major emergencies required a high degree of co-ordination among different service groups and all responsible stakeholders.

Government officials Khima Chetariya, nodal officer-GSDMA and Mutual Aid members BB Kaushik, AGM-Fire, Adani Port and SEZ , AC Datar, Head –Fire Adani Power, Pappu Kumar, Safety Officer - IOCL and representatives from HPCL and Jindal Saw also participated in the drill as observers.

Mutual Aid members responded to the distress call given from CGPL emergency control room whereas opportunities for improvement (OFI) were identified during the concluding meeting.

Speaking at the drill, Mr Sharma, ED and CEO, CGPL, said, "Our involvement in this exercise reiterates our commitment towards safety of all our stakeholders, be it inside our premises or outside the plant. It is Tata Power's endeavour to ensure all employees are aware and trained to handle emergency situations. This brings us one step closer to a safe and hazard free working environment. We hope that the drill will assist our employees in being vigilant and ensure zero accidents occurrence at the facility."
